The Golden Age of Couture.

So, the forties and fifties are two of my favourite era's. A time machine please? Anyway this book - which i got for my birthday - is like an encyclopedia for Couture. The pages are filled with -rather beautiful - pictures by some of the worlds most renowned photographers, including Norman Parkinson, Richard Avedon and Cecil Beaton. All of whom manage to capture the essence of these era's perfectly and exactly how i imagined that time to be. And of course there is the clothes themselves, beautifully constructed gowns, with incredibly intricate detailing that make each piece individual. The works of Cristobal Balenciaga, Christian Dior and Hubert Givenchy are amongst the chapters in this book and it didn't take that long to notice the continous cycle of style that has occured since. As the pictures below will demonstrate.

Even though it would be great for the 2010 to be a year of completely new styles, i can't help but love to see all the classic styles come around time and time again.
