My week with Marilyn

I am so excited to see 'My week with Marilyn' which hits cinemas on the 25th of this month. It's already received brilliant reviews, and with the exquisite Michelle Williams playing Monroe, and a stellar supporting cast that includes Kenneth Brannagh, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson & Judi Dench, it's sure not to disappoint.

Valentino

A Paris Fashion Week comes to a close, the best really have been saved until last. Valentino unveiled their Spring/Summer 2012 collection today, and to rave reviews from the critical eyes of the fashion editors in the front row. And of course to the likes of me, swooning over each look that graced my computer screen.
I always look forward to Valentino for their romantic, poetic, whimsy aesthetic that is applied year in year out. And this collection was all of these things, multiplied. Doily lace, delicate chiffon, leather and applique were present on the varying forms of pretty princess dresses in pale pink and mint, black, blood red and white. Models wore flat sandals, and soft edwardian-style plaits in their hair, adding to the gorgeous girlishness of this collection.
Hands down one my my favourite collections of all the fashion weeks.

LFW: Erdem S/S2012

London Fashion Week is always my favourite of the season and call me bias, but there is no denying, the design talent is second to none. With such an eclectic mix of designers, from Christopher Kane, to Erdem, no two shows are the same, not even a little bit. Besides, London hasn't recently been names fashion capital of the world for nothing.
Whilst I have been enjoying seeing the string of shows since Friday, I have been waiting patiently to see the new Erdem collection. Famed for his prim, ladylike aesthetic, this man can do know wrong as far as I'm concerned, and this season was no exception. This season, he went for a sort of 'Downton Abbey' inspired vibe, sending models down the runway wearing an array of dresses, from strapless knee length affairs, to those clad with digitalised poppy prints and crisp white lace, nicely finished with boater hats, and gloves.
However, even the ladylike lengths and high necklines, could not distract from the fact that this season, the Erdem woman just got sexier, with the sheer lace, figure hugging  dresses, fitted corsets and red stained lips seeping through.
Still, there's no denying, that Erdem remains the undisputed champ of ladylike dressing.

NYFW S/S2012: Rodarte

Rodarte, are the only designers I look really look forward to watching at New York Fashion week, because in amongst the pristine, put together collections that plague the catwalk - all minimalist, and urban - comes the unpredictable. Famed for their amazing use of layering and texture, the Mulleavy sisters, always offer up a collection that gets even the most New York of fashion editors excited.
For Spring/Summer 2012, they took inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh and Sleeping beauty (one of my favourite movies ever), and the end result? a delightful mixture of Disney princess dresses, teamed with sunflower prints, vibrant blues, golden yellows and lime greens. The structure and shape were 100 percent Rodarte, but once again, they pushed themselves to create something a bit 'out there', that would undoubtedly surprise and delight their loyal fan base.

Orla Kiely stationery.

After posting some lust worthy goodies from Orla Kiely on here a while ago, I decided to buy myself a lovely new notebook and pen for University. I got this one from my local waterstones, where they stock a range of Orla Kiely stationery. I was hoping to by a thicker, hardback notebook, but unfortunately it wasn't lined paper so I settled for this one instead. I adore Kiely's retro prints, and will enjoy using these - perhaps it will make dissertation writing all the more appealing...
